Spring is in the Air
Welcome Spring!
We have had a very unusual winter with snow down to sea level and yet the Southern Alps have had but a light dusting. Just as the weather has been unpredicatable so has the employment industry. With decisions, as a result of the earthquakes, still to be finalised some employers are having to let staff go knowing that they will need them 'soon'. This uncertainty is difficult for both employers and employees. One feeling that is strong in most industries is that the need for staff is going to increase.
Supporting Black
It has been humbling watching the Rugby World Cup fever taking over New Zealand and seeing the local businesses and schools getting in behind the boys in black. Congratulations to those of you who have decorated your premises!
We look forward to the next few weeks and many exciting, nail biting games.
Reading a CV
A Curriculum Vitae is a common way an employer screens applicants. When reading a CV ensure you are not misled by the cliches and grandiose statements. A good CV will have facts and examples of abilities that can be verified. It should be concise and straightforward. Look for qualifications, skills and attributes that are transferable and would be beneficial to your business. Most people change jobs every two to five years. By reading a CV well you can save time shortlisting only those applicants that are likely to accept an offer.
